San Leandro Police Reported More Crimes to FBI in 2012

San Leandro police reported 437 violent crimes in 2012. That’s an increase of 70 violent crimes over 2011.

The number of property crimes also increased from 3,205 in 2011 to 3,585 last year. In 2012, San Leandro had a violent crime rate of five known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 41.2 known offenses per 1,000 people.

The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. San Leandro has one sworn officer for every 1,000 residents, which is close to the East Bay average of 1.2.
