San Leandro Police Department Offers Online Reporting

Community members will now be able to report nonviolent crimes, and "cold" complaints or crimes online.

The  has launched an online crime reporting system designed to save time and money for both citizens and the police department.

The system, developed by CopLogic of San Ramon, will allow community members to report non-violent crimes, non-emergency complaints or crimes, and crime tips through the department's webpage. Examples of crimes that could be reported through the system include auto burglaries, vandalism, minor hit and run accidents, custody order violations and lost property.

"If you have a report that’s just for insurance, there’s no need for a cop to go out and take a report," said police department spokesman Lt. Jeff Tudor. However, he added, community members can always ask an officer to take a report in person.

The system will also make it easier for victims to obtain police reports to file as insurance claims, according to a news release from the department.

Plus, Tudor said, the system will relieve community members of the burden of coming into the department, or waiting for an in-person officer visit, and will free up officers' time for patrolling.

“The less time we’re out taking insurance reports, the more time we can be out deterring crime,” Tudor said.

To file an online report, visit the police department's website (http://www.sanleandro.org/depts/pd/), then choose "File a Police Report" from the menu on the left-hand side of the page.

For more information, visit the online reporting webpage directly. If a crime does not fit the criteria outlined on the webpage for online reporting, please call the department at 510-577-2740.
