San Leandro Police Issue Fraud Alert

Scammer seeks personal information, supposedly to transfer a large inheritance. Don't be fooled.

 

The San Leandro Police Department issued a fraud alert Monday about a suspicious incident that occurred last Thursday.

Police say that a San Leandro resident received a fax at home from an unknown sender.

The sender claimed to be involved in transferring a large inheritance, and asked the recipient of the fax to provide personal information to facilitate the transfer.

The recipient was suspicious and reported the incident to SLPD.

Investigators tried and failed to locate the sender. 

Now police are warning the public to be alert for this scam. The moral of the story is: don't provide personal information to strange people or companies.
