San Leandro Police Find Gun, Arrest Two Men

A traffic stop on Durant Avenue near the Oakland border leads to discovery of a loaded 9 mm pistol in a car.

Officers from a crime deterrence squad stopped a vehicle on Durant Avenue Wednesday night and arrested its two occupants for allegedly having a loaded 9 millimeter pistol on the back seat.

According to a press release from the San Leandro police department, the officers were patrolling the city's border with Oakland at about 11:30 pm when they spotted a car near Kenilworth Street that had a vehicle code violation.

After pulling the car over officers learned that its two occupants, Darrin Hughes and Servontre Ingram, both 21-year-old Antioch residents, were covered by parole and probation provisions that made them and their property easy to search.

During the search of the car police say they found the loaded gun and placed both men under arrest for possession of a firearm.

"This was the third handgun our patrol staff has recovered in the last 5 days," said police department spokesman Lt. Randall Brandt.
