San Leandro Police Arrest Man With Gun

Traffic stop on Washington Avenue Sunday night results in arrest of Oakland man, confiscation of a loaded 9 mm handgun, police say.

 

San Leandro police arrested a 41-year-old Oakland man Sunday night for allededly carrying a loaded 9 millimeter handgun in the center console of his car.

Police say that Tom Hawkens was pulled over for a vehicle code violation on Washington Avenue at Springlake Drive at about 11:28 pm.

A records check of revealed that Hawkens was on probation for drug and weapon violations and that his car could be searched. It was during this search that police say they found the gun.

Hawkens was arrested for possessing a concealed firearm and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

"There is nothing routine about traffic stops," Lt. Jeff Tudor said in a release.
