Residential Burglary Suspect at Large After Fleeing from Police

After a short pursuit, the suspect crashed and fled on foot.

By Bay City News—

A suspect in a residential burglary in San Leandro remains at large this evening after evading police officers during a pursuit, authorities said. Police said that at 12:10 p.m. today they were notified that a suspect had committed a burglary at a home on Karol Way and a witness told them that the suspect fled the area in a car that was headed toward East 14th Street.

Officers located the suspect's vehicle and attempted a traffic enforcement stop but the driver fled from them and led them on a short pursuit in the downtown area, police said.

The suspect's vehicle subsequently crashed into a parked car on Castro Street near Williams Street and the suspect fled on foot into the residential area just south of that intersection, according to police.

Officers set up a perimeter around that area and conducted a yard search utilizing a search dog but at this time the suspect has not yet been located or identified, police said.

Authorities said anyone with information about the incident should call the San Leandro Police Department's criminal investigations division at (510) 577-3230 or an anonymous tip line at (510) 577-3278. People may also send an anonymous tip to San Leandro police by texting the word "SLPD" and their tip to 847411 or by submitting a tip to the department's website.
