Proactive Police Work Shows Positive Results, SLPD Says

From possessing illegal guns to car burglaries, San Leandro Police Department has arrested several suspects in previous weeks due to proactive police work, a press release stated.

During the past couple of weeks, there have been several proactive arrests made by San Leandro Police Department officers, according to a recent press release by SLPD.

Below are brief summaries describing three of these incidents:

Suspect arrested for possessing illegal gun: On July 12, around 2 p.m., one of SLPD's bicycle officers was patrolling near the Washington Plaza. He observed a vehicle illegally parked in a handicap stall and he contacted the occupant. Probable cause was developed to search the vehicle and an illegal firearm was discovered concealed and loaded in a backpack. The driver Jason Bland of Oakland was arrested and booked for possessing the illegal weapon.

Automotive burglary suspect was arrested: On July 12, around 3 p.m., officers responded to Bally’s Total Fitness (567 Floresta Boulevard) to investigate an automotive burglary that had occurred in the parking lot. Responding SLPD Officers were provided with the description of the suspect vehicle that had left the area. Approximately five minutes later, San Leandro Police Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle in Oakland. Tamayo Bernardo of Livermore was in the vehicle and he was positively identified as the suspect in the incident. Tamayo was arrested and booked for committing the burglary.

Suspect arrested for possessing illegal gun: On July 14, around 1 a.m., a patrol officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of MacArthur Boulevard and Durant Avenue to enforce a traffic violation. During the investigation the driver became combative and did not cooperate with officers. The driver physically pulled away from them and after a brief struggle with two officers he was detained. During the struggle officers discovered he was carrying a loaded handgun that was concealed in his waistband. The handgun had been previously reported to the Oakland Police Department as being stolen. The driver Lamar Broussard of Oakland was arrested and booked for possessing the stolen weapon.

Suspect arrested for possessing illegal gun: On July 15, around 9 a.m., a patrol officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of Marina Boulevard to enforce a traffic violation. Probable cause to search the vehicle was established and an illegally concealed loaded firearm was recovered. The driver Nicholas Wallace of Oakland was arrested and booked for possessing the illegal weapon.
