Police Wonder If Two Recent Home Robberies Are Related

They were in different parts of town but in both cases perpetrators knocked on doors and ransacked the houses while they held the resident at bay but did not harm them.

San Leandro police are investigating two residential robberies in the past few days and wondering if they may be related.

The first occurred at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on the 2300 block of Regatta Way at the southwest end of town off Lewelling Blvd.

The second occurred at 1 a.m. Thursday on the 600 block of Black Pine Drive in the northern portion of town off Davis Street.

Police say the victims in both incidents were Asian females and the robbers were black males. Otherwise they offered only the vaguest of descriptions.

Police say the perpetrators knocked on the front doors of both houses prior to entering.

When there was no answer, they forced their way in.

Once inside, they encountered the victims. Police say at least one of the intruders stayed with each victim while the rest ransacked the residences looking for valuables.

Neither victim was physically injured during the robberies.

“Detectives are reviewing the details in both cases and trying to determine if they may be associated," said Lt. Randall Brandt.

Brandt said police have noticed a pattern of similar break-ins in which perpetrators knock on the front doors of the targeted residences. When there is no answer, they force entry and search for valuables.

Brandt said if a stranger knocks, the best thing for a resident to do is to acknowledge them from behind a locked door and to call the police immediately if fearful.
