Police Seize $2.1 Million Worth of Pot Plants Found During Warrant Service

Ken Dao and Thiet Nong were arrested in connection to the grow operation.

By Bay City News—

San Leandro police serving search warrants in Richmond and San Leandro last Wednesday uncovered a marijuana grow of 1,800 plants, police said today.

At about 8 a.m. Wednesday, detectives served a warrant in the 400 block of McCormick Street in San Leandro and found the plants. Police estimated the street value of the seized pot at $2.1 million.

Police arrested two suspects in connection with the grow operation, identified as Ken Dao and Thiet Nong, both of Richmond.

Investigators also seized $50,884 in cash. The power source at the warehouse where the grow op was set up had been illegally altered and was potentially a fire hazard, police said.

"This marijuana cultivation operation was being conducted in a busy warehouse district and we are fortunate nobody was hurt," police Lt. Randall Brandt said.

Anyone with information about the case has been asked to call San Leandro police at (510) 577-3230 or anonymously at (510) 577-3278.
