Information provided by the San Leandro Police Nixle Alerts

A Bancroft Middle School student was approached as she was walking to school when she was approached by a male in a vehicle. The suspect pulled along side the 13-year-old victim and told her that her mom wanted him to give her a ride. The victim refused and walked to school where she notified staff, who notified SLPD immediately.

The suspect was described as an African-American male, about 30-years-old and wearing a camouflaged color baseball cap. The suspect's vehicle was similar to a Black Chrysler 300 with tinted windows.

Detectives are investigating the case and will be working with school personnel.

Lt. Mike Sobek said, "This young student did a very good job in not getting into that vehicle. It is always good to remind your children to stay alert and walk in pairs if they are able to."
