They say residents can help combat these crimes by reporting suspicious activity immediately. For instance San Leandro police reported a couple of weeks ago how such a tip led to three arrests.

Police have discovered a common theme in some of these burglaries.

Prior to the break-in suspects have knocked on the front doors of the homes they had targeted.

If there is no response at the door, the suspects often go around to the back of the homes and force entry through another door or window.

If you are at home, acknowledge that you are there from behind your locked door and report the suspicious activity immediately.

If you are a neighbor and see such suspicious activity nearby stay alert for signs of a surreptitious entry.

In addition to dialing 911, residents can send anonymous tips to police by texting the word SLPD and their tip to 847411.

Anonymous web tips can also be submitted from the Police Departments website http://www.sanleandro.org/depts/pd/services/at.asp.
