Police Nab Burglars In Broadmoor

Three suspects were apprehended Wednesday as police brought in dogs and cordoned off a section of this rain-soaked neighborhood.

 

Updated 4:00 pm -- San Leandro Police arrested three suspects Wednesday after a tip led them to a burglary on the 100 block of Beverly Street in the Broadmoor neighborhood.

Officers quickly apprehended two of the suspected burglars but a third initially eluded capture.

For several hours ending about 1 pm, police cordoned off a rectangle from Durant Avenue south to Broadmoor Boulevard, and from Beverly east to Warwick Street.

A K-9 unit was brought in to help track the missing suspect through the rain-soaked backyards.

Patch readers observed officers armed with shotguns and automatic weapons posted at key intersections.

At the command post at the corner of Beverly and Broadmoor, Lieutenant Greg Lemmons said a quick report allowed officers to reach the scene before the suspects could flee.

Police said the burgled house was unoccupied when the crime occurred. An alert neighbor placed the call that led to the arrests.
