Police Log: Car Crashes Abound, One with Fatality; Plus, 3 Officer Promotions

Arrests, robberies and more from Aug. 25 to 31.

The San Leandro Police Department announced three promotions within the department.
 
“These officers have an established record of distinguished service and professionalism in the department and City, representing the department core values of teamwork, integrity, pride and service," said Police Chief Sandra Spagnoli. "They are a great addition to our supervisor and management team.” 

  • Mark Clifford- Sergeant. Mark is a US Marine and was a Staff Sergeant for 10 years. He was hired by SLPD in 1994 and was a field training officer, burglary detective, firearms instructor, Tac Unit Officer, SWAT member and Honor Guard. 
  • Mike Sobek- Lieutenant. Mike was born and raised in San Leandro and a graduate of Marina High School. Mike was hired by SLPD in 1991 and previously work at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department from 1984-1991. His assignments throughout his career cover School Resource Officer, Vice, SWAT, Detective and Traffic. 
  • Bob McManus- Lieutenant. Bob was born and raised in San Leandro, and a graduate from SLHS. Hired by SLPD in 1990, he has worked a variety of assignments including Detective, School Resource Officer, and Administrative Services. He is the program coordinator for Critical Incident Stress Management Team.
A formal promotional ceremony is slated for October.
