Police K-9 Finds Fleeing Warrant Suspect Hiding Under House

A police dog helped track down a domestic violence suspect who fled from officers Sunday night in San Leandro.

At about 7:25 p.m., an officer stopped 31-year-old Charles Fryer for allegedly riding a bicycle in the 1100 block of David Street without safety lights, according to police.

After giving the officer his name, Fryer abandoned the bike and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood, running through several yards, police said. The officer attempted to chase Fryer but lost sight of him.
 
Additional officers and a police K-9 unit responded and conducted a yard-to-yard search. Fryer was eventually found by the K-9 unit, hiding in a tight crawl space beneath an occupied house in the 1300 block of Orchard Avenue, police said.

Fryer was apprehended by the police dog and transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for injuries.
 
Authorities later discovered that Fryer was wanted for outstanding arrest warrants, including a domestic violence charge, according to police. Fryer is expected to be transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, and will be arraigned in Hayward Superior Court later this week.
