Police Investigating String of Robberies

Five incidents have occurred in the last three weeks in which victims have been robbed of purses, wallets and other personal items. Police say the robberies may be related.

Bay City News—Detectives in San Leandro are investigating a string of possibly related street robberies from the past three weeks, a police sergeant said.

The victims — three Asian women and two Asian men between 40 and 60 years old — were robbed of purses, wallets and other personal items while walking alone in each of the five robberies, Sgt. Doug Calcagno said.

Calcagno said two to four black men are suspects in each incident, although the vehicle descriptions vary and include a black four-door Lexus and a white four-door Camry.

Vehicle descriptions similar to the Lexus were given in each incident, and Calcagno said there is "no doubt" they are the same suspects.

The fifth robbery occurred in the 100 block of Durant Avenue on Tuesday.

Some of the victims were knocked to the ground but no one was seriously injured during the robberies, Calcagno said.
