Police Investigating Armed Robbery at ATM Machine

By Bay City News Service

San Leandro police are investigating an armed robbery at an outdoor ATM machine from Friday morning, police said.

A man who was using an ATM machine at a Wells Fargo Bank in the 1800 block of Marina Boulevard around 5 a.m. was approached by a person with a firearm who robbed the man and fled the area with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over partially covering his face, police said. Detectives are working with bank security agents and area businesses to attain video surveillance footage to identify the suspect, police said.

"We want to remind everyone to always be aware of their surroundings, especially while using ATM machines. We recommend the use of outdoor ATM machines during daylight hours if possible, or when the area has others around, as this generally deters crimes like this," Lt. Robert McManus said in a statement.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the San Leandro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at (510) 577-3230 or leave an anonymous tip at (510) 577-3278.
