Police Caution Residents After Violent Purse Snatching

Two incidents have occurred in the past week in which a woman was violently robbed for her purse.

are asking residents to be aware of their surroundings when parking after a woman was violently robbed on Wednesday evening.

The woman was getting her 10-month-old baby out of the car outside of their home on the 1500 block of Anchorage Drive near Regatta Way when a man grabbed her from behind and began pulling her purse away from her, according to police. 

The suspect punched the victim in the face and threw her to the ground during the struggle, according to police.

The suspect got the purse and fled the area on foot. He was then seen getting into the passenger side of a white 4-door sedan with tinted windows, police reported. 

The suspect was described as a black male adult, 5'08'' to 5'10'' tall, and wearing a baggy t-shirt and pants.

A similar assault occurred against a woman on Thursday, July 14, while she was on foot at the intersection of Louise Street and Betty Avenue. In that incident, a man grabbed the victim around the neck from behind, threw her to the ground, kicked her and grabbed her purse.

Police said they were looking into whether the incidents were related.
