Police Arrest Murder Suspect in Domestic Violence Incident

Zoann Shipp, 42, is suspected for murdering his wife. Detectives will be meeting with the Alameda County District Attorney to present their case for charging.

After responding to a domestic violence incident Sunday afternoon, police arrested a San Leandro man suspected of murdering his wife.

On Sunday, July 7 at 4:15 p.m., San Leandro Police Officers responded to the 15200 block of Hesperian Boulevard to deal with a possible domestic violence incident. Upon their arrival, an unresponsive 60-year-old woman was found inside. Paramedics responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

During their investigation, police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the victim’s husband, Zoann Shipp, a 42-year old San Leandro resident, charging him with murder.

On Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 4 p.m., detectives received information that Shipp was at a local hospital in San Leandro. Detectives took Shipp into custody without incident. He was later transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin where he is currently being held without bail.

“Crimes of domestic violence often go unreported to police and such as in this case, sometimes end in tragedy," Lieutenant Robert McManus said. "We offer our condolences to the victim's family and friends.”

Detectives will be meeting with the Alameda County District Attorney on Friday, July 12, 2013, to present their case for charging.
