By Bay City News

A suspected drunken driver was arrested after causing a crash that killed a 57-year-old woman in San Leandro early Sunday morning, a police lieutenant said.

The driver, whom an officer had seen traveling at an estimated 100 mph, crashed head-on into another vehicle around 2:30 a.m. in the 14500 block of Washington Avenue, San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus said.

A passenger in the car that was hit, San Leandro resident Lomia Faumuina, was pronounced dead in the scene. The man who was driving the car Faumuina was in was taken to a hospital where he remained in critical condition this morning, McManus said.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was also taken to a hospital for treatment. He has been arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI and reckless driving and is being guarded by police at the hospital, were he is in stable condition, McManus said. He is being held without bail.
