Pipe-Wielding Robbers Assault Couple on Street

Police asking for help in arresting the suspects in the Sunday evening assault that occurred in the vicinity of Pershing Drive and Garcia Ave.

The San Leandro police department released the follow statement on a Sunday evening robbery.

On 07/22/12, approximately 9:15 pm, there was an armed robbery that occurred within the residential neighborhood described above.  The victim’s ages ranges between 16-20 years old.  They were walking down the street and they noticed a small vehicle drive by them and park.  Shortly after that, suspects #1 and #2 approached them from behind carrying a 1-2 foot long pipe.

Suspect #1 struck one of the victims in the arm with the pipe and the force of the blow caused the victims purse to fall.  The suspects also attempted to strike the other victim but she was able to block the strike.  The suspects got into the waiting vehicle and it fled toward East 14th Street.

Lt. Randall Brandt said, “The witnesses in this incident made great observations.  I would like to stress the importance of calling the police as soon as possible to increase the likelihood of us catching the suspects responsible.”
