One Suspect Arrested in Home Invasion Robbery

Police say 27-year-old Oakland resident Frank Scott, shown here, was taken into custody in connection with a robbery in a San Leandro home last month

One suspect is in custody while two others remain at large in a random home invasion robbery that shocked San Leandro last month.

Officials said Frank Scott was taken into custody over the Labor Day weekend after forensic evidence collected at the scene of the crime led authorities to the 27-year-old Oakland resident.

San Leandro Police Department spokesman Lt. Jeff Tudor said that information was passed on to officers in Oakland who arrested Scott on 102nd Avenue.

Alameda County prosecutors have charged Scott with robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment and robbery of an inhabited dwelling.

The robbery happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 at a home in the 1500 block of Arena St.

Tudor said police think Scott was one of two perpetrators who was armed in the incident although the suspect has not been charged with weapons possession.

The hunt continues for two other suspects. Tudor declined to provide any information other than to say the investigation is continuing.

Tudor said San Leandro has experienced home invasion robberies before but what was unusual about this case was that it appears to have been random.

“Usually it's a situation where there's a drug buy that went bad or the perpetrators know the occupants have a lot of money around,” Tudor said, in contrast to this incident for which there are no such explanations.

Police say that on the evening that the robbery occurred, three suspects approached the victim outside of his residence while he was standing in his driveway.

The suspects were described as the following:

  • Suspect #1: Black male adult, dark clothing, 20 years old, 160-170 lbs., armed with a black handgun.

  • Suspect #2: Black male adult, dark clothing, thin build, dreadlock hair style, armed with an assault-rifle type of weapon.

  • Suspect #3: Black male adult. Suspect vehicle: light-colored four-door sedan.

Officials say one suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and all three suspects had the victim take them into his house, which was occupied by his wife and two children.

The suspects ransacked the house, taking various items of jewelry, cash and cell phones. One of the suspects attempted to place the male victim in handcuffs while holding the family hostage at gunpoint.

All three suspects ran from the house and possibly got into the listed suspect vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Det. Sgt. Ted Henderson at 510-577-3237.
