One Person Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in San Leandro

Before deputies arrived, multiple callers reported seeing a man beating a woman in a car.

A man was shot and killed by an Alameda County Sheriff's Office deputy this afternoon in San Leandro, a sheriff's office spokesman said this evening.

The deputy responded to 168th Avenue and East 14th Street around 4:45 p.m. today after multiple callers reported seeing a man beating a woman in a car, according to Sgt. J.D. Nelson.

The callers reported that the woman was bleeding, Nelson said. Shortly after the deputy arrived, shots were fired. The deputy was uninjured, but the suspect was fatally wounded, Nelson said.

The woman who was being beaten was taken to Eden Medical Center for treatment of major injuries, Nelson said.

The sheriff's office will investigate the shooting in cooperation with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
