Oakland PD Involved in Shooting Near San Leandro

A 22-year-old San Lorenzo man who allegedly pulled a gun on police in East Oakland Wednesday night was shot but is expected to survive.

 

Bay City News -- Oakland's violence brushed close to San Leandro Wednesday night when a 22-year old San Lorenzo man was shot by Oakland police after he allegedly pulled a gun on them.

The shooting occurred just north of the San Leandro border near 105th Avenue and E Street an area where Oakland police have been patrolling heavily because of recent shootings and robberies.

Oakland police say the incident occurred when a pair of Oakland police officers stopped two men in a car. Oakland police said the driver, a 22-year-old San Lorenzo man, armed himself and resisted arrest and was shot by the officers.

Oakland police authorities have not yet disclosed whether the wounded suspect fired at police. Nor have they disclosed whether one or both officers shot at the San Lorenzo man.

None of the names of those involved have been released.

Both officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting, authorities said.

The passenger of the car involved in the incident was briefly detained and interviewed but is not facing any charges at this time, Oakland police said.
