Oakland Man Arrested After Caught Driving with Loaded Handgun on E. 14th Street

Deonte Stevens, 20, of Oakland was arrested Monday evening for possessing a loaded firearm.

An Oakland man was arrested while driving on E. 14th Street Monday evening with a loaded firearm.

At around 6:40 p.m., a San Leandro police officer observed a vehicle driving on E. 14th Street, with an equipment violation. The officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle to enforce the violation. After observing one of the passengers appearing to be nervous and moving around, the officer developed probably cause to search the vehicle and passenger.

The officer found a loaded handgun underneath the seat the nervous subject was sitting on. The suspect, Deonte Stevens, 20, from Oakland, was arrested for possessing a loaded firearm.

“We encourage our officers to be proactive and have zero tolerance to this type of criminal activity," said Lt. Randall Brandt. "In order to maintain our public safety we will continue to have an offensive stance towards crime.”
