Non-Student Airlifted From Bancroft Middle School

A helicopter landed on the field outside Bancroft Middle School Tuesday afternoon to airlift an adult from San Leandro to Santa Clara Medical Center, authorities said.

An Alameda County Fire Department official said the patient was a man who needed special, urgent medical attention and, given the traffic and time of day, it was determined that a helicopter evacuation was the best course.

The school field was used because it was an open space for the helicopter to land and take off. Such uses of school grounds, while routine, prompted some concern among Patch readers.
