Next Teen Academy Offered by SLPD starts June 26
Program provides a month-long behind-the-scenes look at policing in San Leandro

The 2012 session of the Teen Academy is scheduled beginning June 26 through July 26, 2012. It will take place at the San Leandro Police Department, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The purpose of the Teen Academy is to provide San Leandro teens with a basic understanding of how the San Leandro Police Department works and its role in making San Leandro safer.

During the Academy, personnel from throughout the department cover topics that include basic law enforcement as well as background on the department's specialized units, such as SWAT, Traffic, Crime Prevention and others. Each session provides hands-on activities, along with classroom instruction, and the Academy includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the department.
Optional activities such as a police patrol ride along will be scheduled outside of class time.

The Teen Academy is limited to 24 students. Interested participants need to fill out and submit an application. An electronic version of the application accompanies this article.
