New Fire Chief for Alameda County

David Rocha's new job begins today. Rocha was with the San Leandro Fire Department before joining Alameda County Fire Department in 1995.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors announced the appointment of David Rocha as Alameda County Fire Chief, effective April 14, 2014.  

Rocha has served as Interim Chief since January 1, 2014 and prior to that Deputy Fire Chief, under former Fire Chief Demetrious Shaffer who retired in December 2013.  

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dave Rocha as the Fire Chief,” said Keith Carson, President of the Board of Supervisors and Fire District Board. “He will continue to provide stability and strong leadership to the department.”  

Rocha worked for the San Leandro Fire Department for eight years before moving to the Alameda County Fire Department in 1995. During his seven year tenure as Deputy Fire Chief, he was responsible for both the department’s operations and administrative services including the budget during challenging financial times.

Chief Rocha was also involved in consolidation efforts with several cities within Alameda County aimed at achieving operational efficiencies and cost savings in the delivery of regional fire services.
