Update: Cops Have Leads In Castro Valley Homicide

County Sheriffs have "persons of interest" in the suspected homicide of man in his 20s who was found in a Castro Valley home.

Police say there are about a dozen persons of interest relating to Monday evening.

Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office said the sergeant on duty last night received an anonymous tip from a caller saying a person "had some harm in Castro Valley." No address or name was given.

He pieced this together with reports of criminal activity on the 4300 block of Omega Avenue.

When deputies arrived at the home between 6 and 7 p.m., about a dozen people who were hanging outside the house quickly ran off.

According to Nelson, police went into the home "thinking something wasn't right" and knowing a resident of the home was on probation.

He added the home had received complaints from neighbors before.

Deputies found the house to be disheveled with blood everywhere, an obvious sign that a "violent crime occurred there," according to Nelson. They then discovered the body of a man in his 20s lying in the garage.

Police then cordoned off the house and got a search warrant.

The Alameda County Coroner's Office is currently investigating the cause of the man's death.

Nelson confirmed the man is not a resident of the house but is believed to be from Castro Valley or Hayward and has some connection to the home.

After speaking with neighbors and getting cooperation from some of the residents of the home, police also believe many people were at the house in the past few days.

However, Nelson said police have yet to make contact with the resident who is on probation.

This is the first homicide being investigated in connection to Castro Valley this year.

"This is certainly unusual to Castro Valley," Nelson said.

No arrests have been made and police are now searching for anyone who was at the house in the past 24 to 48 hours.

Anyone with information is asked to call Alameda County Sheriff's Office investigators at 510-667-7721.
