Medivac Helicopter Landed At Bancroft School

But there was no drive-by shooting, contrary to rumors.

 

Update: A helicopter landed on the playing field behind Bancroft Middle School in response to a medical emergency Saturday afternoon, a San Leandro Police Department spokesperson said today.

But police said there was no drive-by shooting that day, as had been rumored.

Reports of the helicopter landing and the erroneous rumor of the drive-by shooting both surfaced on the Estudillo Homeowners discussion group.

The helicopter landing was a civilian medical emergency, police said.

Patch reader David Topete heard the helicopter Saturday and drove to the scene. He took and shared these pictures (see above).

He said he saw a Calstar Medivac helicopter on the sports field. He was not aware of any rumored shooting.

Mike Katz, with the San Leandro school board, said Saturday's landing was the second time in recent weeks that a medivac helicopter had touched down on school grounds in response to a medical emergency.

He said the last such event was at John Muir Middle School.
