2ND UPDATE: Suspect in Stabbing Death Was Friend of Victim

Paul Meyer, 46, was stabbed and killed at his girlfriend's home last night during an argument with a friend. The suspect, Scott Roberts, 41, was arrested.

The man accused of stabbing and killing a San Leandro man on Wednesday night was a friend, the victim's girlfriend says.

The victim, Paul Meyer, 46, was found by police last night at the home of his girlfriend, who was not home at the time. A suspect, Scott Roberts, 41, also from San Leandro, was arrested in connection to the killing, according to the . 

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call in the 1300 block of Lillian Avenue around 5 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Feb. 23 and found Meyer lying on the floor of his home with a stab wound to his chest. Meyer was taken to Eden Hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead.

Officers searched the area and apprehended Roberts in the 1900 block of Louise Street. He was carrying a knife, which appeared to be the weapon used in the stabbing, according to police.

Roberts has a record of being arrested for drug violations, assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence, according to police.

Meyer's girlfriend, who wished to be identified only by her nickname, Anna, said Roberts was a friend of hers and of Meyer. She suggested the two men may have recently been at odds, but didn't know how or why the altercation ensued on Wednesday. She said she wasn't home when it happened. 

Anna said Meyer grew up in San Leandro and graduated from San Leandro High School in the mid-1980s. His parents and siblings live in town, she said. 

Meyer's last job had been with , Anna said, though he was recently unemployed. She described him as a good man and a hard worker.
