Man Arrested for Stealing Two Vehicles

A San Leandro police officer with a keen eye is responsible for recovering two stolen vehicles and for arresting the man suspected of taking them.

An officer was driving in the 15400 block of Sedgeman Street near Lewelling Boulevard around 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to the police department.

The officer saw a man transferring car parts from one vehicle to another, and found it suspicious, police said.

After speaking with him and checking the license plate numbers, the officer determined that both of the vehicles were stolen - one from San Leandro and the other from Berkeley, according to police.

Police said the officer discovered burglary tools and stolen credit cards in the suspect's possession, and she arrested him.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Agustin Chavez.
