The San Leandro Police Department is seeking civic-minded residents and those that work in San Leandro to join its 10-week Citizen Police Academy, scheduled to begin Oct. 23. Sessions are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The purpose of the Academy is to provide attendees with a basic understanding of how the San Leandro Police Department works and its role in making San Leandro safer. During the Academy, personnel from throughout the Department cover topics that include basic law enforcement, as well as background on the Department's specialized units such as SWAT, the Crime Suppression Unit, Canine, Crime Prevention and others. Each session provides hands-on activities, along with classroom instruction. The Academy includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Department as well as a police patrol ride-along.
The Academy is limited to 24 students. Interested participants are asked to visit the City’s website and submit an application. Applications can either be emailed or delivered to Lt. Robert McManus. The application deadline is Oct. 18.
For additional information, interested applicants may contact Lieutenant Robert McManus at 577-3246 or via email at email@example.com
