Man Killed, Two Wounded in Separate Hayward Shootings

Two victims were wounded during a shooting Saturday night and one man was killed during what may have been a drug-related shooting, according to media reports.

A man was killed and two victims wounded in two separate shootings in Hayward this weekend, according to media reports.

The violence started at about 8:55 p.m. Saturday night when two gunmen fired 16 shots in an apartment complex on the 27000 block of Ponderosa Court.

According to the Daily Review, two men were struck by the gunfire and suffered none-life threatening injuries. The victims were in a parked car when the shooting began. One was shot in the back as he ran. The other victim remained in the car and was shot five times in the hips and legs, the Review reports. No suspect information was released.

Police believe the crime may have been retaliation for a shooting that occurred last week in the same area.

Hayward’s weekend violence escalated with a 43-year-old man fatally wounded in a shooting Sunday night.

A resident at an apartment building on the 24000 block of O’Neil Avenue reported a neighbor bleeding in the hallway at about 10:40 p.m. The man, who was shot in the stomach, pulled the first-floor hallway fire alarm after stumbling down from his third-floor apartment, according to the Daily Review.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.

According to the Daily Review, police located a small marijuana grow operation in the victim’s apartment and believe the shooting may have been drug-related.
