Hayward Man Arrested For Suspicion of Shooting Man in Leg

The shooting took place around 4:40 a.m. this morning in the 14500 block of School Street.

A Hayward man was arrested after allegedly shooting a victim in the leg in San Leandro early this morning, police said.

Officers were dispatched to reports of a shooting occurred in the 14500 block of School Street next to Interstate Highway 580 around 4:40 a.m., according to police.

Police said the victim, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, knew the suspect and identified him as 33-year-old Joseph Sommer.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for the injury, which was not considered life-threatening.

California Highway Patrol officers in the area spotted Sommer driving at high speeds and stopped him.

He was arrested and taken to county jail.

In a statement, San Leandro police Lt. Randall Brandt said the shooting "was an isolated incident."

The crime is under investigation.
