Firefighters Battle Fire Behind Business

Fire crews found a tractor tire burning against the building when they arrived.

Firefighters battled a one-alarm fire at the rear of a San Leandro business on Monday night, an Alameda County fire battalion chief said.

Fire crews responded to a report of the fire in the 600 block of E. 14th Street around 9:15 p.m., Battalion Chief Ronnie Oatis said. The blaze was under control by about 10:20 p.m., fire officials said.

Firefighters found a large tractor tire in flames against the rear of the business, he said. The blaze caused an estimated $5,000 in damages to the rear of the building and ceiling, Oatis said.

No one was inside the business during the fire, he said. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
