Fire-Fighters Train Today Near Downtown BART Station

Urban Shield drills gives first responders from around the Bay Area a chance to hone their skills.

Firefighters from around the Bay Area will converge on the Alameda County Fire Department's Training Facility just west of the Downtown BART station today for a preparedness training exercise called Urban Shield.

Throught to be the largest preparedness drill in the nation, Urban Shield will include 32 emergency scenarios that will take place throughout the Bay Area.

The training in San Leandro will include to search and rescue and hazardous materials handling.

Other emergency scenarios throughout the region will provide training for police, tactical teams, emergency medical services personnel and technology personnel.
