Fallen San Leandro Police Officers Memorialized

Three San Leandro Police officers have been killed in the line of duty.

San Leandro Police Officer Dan Niemi was shot to death on July 25, 2005 after responding to a complaint about a loud party.  

Reserve Officer Donald Spingola was killed on August 29, 1969 by a ricochet bullet fired by another San Leandro Police officer who was chasing a burglary suspect.

Officer Fred Haller was shot seven times and killed as he sat in his car while on patrol on April 20, 1961.

These are San Leandro's fallen officers. They lost their lives while working to make this city a safe place to live, work and play.

Last year, 11 officers in California and 73 officers across the country were killed in the line of duty, according to a news release from the . 

Some 20 officers from the San Leandro Police Department, including Chief Sandra Spagnoli, travelled to Sacramento on Monday to participate in a procession and memorial to the state's fallen officers. 

San Leandro residents are invited to visit the memorial wall in front of the police department next to City Hall to pay respects to the officers honored there.
