Elderly Woman's Mobile Home Gutted in Early Morning Fire

Alameda County Fire Department responded to the one-alarm fire at a mobile home on East 14 Street, temporarily blocking a portion of the road.

An elderly San Leandro resident has been displaced after a one-alarm fire raged through her mobile home Tuesday morning.

About a dozen firefighters responded to the blaze at the Trailer Haven mobile home park, 2399 E. 14th St., about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to Alameda County fire spokesperson Aisha Knowles.

The firefighters, using three fire engines, one fire truck and one heavy rescue vehicle, contained the blaze to one mobile home. They extinguished the flames within 10 minutes, Knowles said.

A portion of East 14th Street was closed for about two hours while firefighters were on scene, because they had to hook up the fire hose to a hydrant across the street, Knowles said.

The woman was able to escape without injury and no other injuries were reported. Knowles said firefighters believe the fire was accidental but don't have a cause for the blaze.

The American Red Cross is working to provide temporary shelter for the woman, she said.
