Elderly Woman Beaten in Bayfair Mall Parking Lot, Suspects Arrested Immediately After Robbery

An elderly woman was beaten during a robbery in the Bayfair Mall parking lot on Monday. Three suspects were arrested immediately after the incident.

A 15-year-old female beat a woman in her 60's in the Bayfair Mall parking lot on Monday around noon.

The victim was putting things inside her vehicle when the suspect came behind her and tried to take her purse. The suspect hit the victim several times and the victim fell to the ground. The suspect began kicking the victim in the head, and fled in a waiting vehicle with the victim’s purse. 

The victim immediately reported the incident.

Staff members from multiple divisions responded to help locate the suspect. Within three minutes of the report, the suspect vehicle was located driving on the freeway into Oakland. The three suspects abandoned the car in East Oakland, and were found and arrested in the 9000 block of International Boulevard. The female and two 16-year-old males were from Oakland.

The victim’s property was returned to her, and she was treated for several injuries at a nearby hospital.

The investigation also revealed the vehicle the suspects were had been driving was reported stolen in San Leandro on Sunday.

Lt. Randall Brandt stated, "The holidays are here and we are increasing patrols in several areas of our city.  If it wasn't for the good observations and the immediate call into our dispatch center these arrests may not have been possible.  Shoppers should really pay attention to their surroundings and report suspicious activity to us immediately."
