DUI Checkpoint Nabs One Drunk Driver

Five cars were impounded and 30 citations were issued at a checkpoint on East 14th Street.

The San Leandro Police Department conducted a sobriety and drivers license checkpoint Thursday night on the 14800 Block of E. 14th St.  It began around 8:30pm and ran until 12:30am.

During the operation:

  • 764 vehicles passed through the checkpoint
  • 634 drivers were screened and provided pamphlets by Mothers Against Drunk Driving representatives
  • 7 drivers were required to perform Field Sobriety Tests
  • 1 driver was arrested for DUI
  • 5 vehicles were impounded
  • 30 citations were issued for various violations

The purpose of the checkpoint was to increase awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving and serve as a deterrent to potentially impaired or unlicensed drivers.
