Driver Hurt In Car Accident Near San Leandro High

Two teenager bystanders sustain minor injuries in unexplained solo crash.

A woman is in critical condition after she veered off Bancroft Avenue near San Leandro High School this afternoon, hitting two teenager bystanders in the process.

San Leandro Police Sergeant Doug Calcagno said the teens were taken to a hospital for observation and did not suffer major injuries.

Calcagno said the driver, a woman in her late 40s, was headed southbound on Bancroft when she veered off the road near the high school, crashed into a tree and struck two teens.

She was taken to a hospital in critical condition. It was not immediately known what caused the woman to veer off the road, Calcagno said.
