Drive-By Shooting On I-580 Being Investigated

A teenager was injured in the Friday night incident along the freeway in San Leandro

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred on westbound Interstate 580 in San Leandro late Friday night.

An 18-year-old San Leandro man was injured in the shooting, which was reported around 11:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

The victim and others were driving on westbound 580 just west of 150th Avenue when a light-colored sedan pull up on the right side and opened fire with a handgun.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Eden Hospital for treatment.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, but investigators believe it was not random.

The CHP is handling the investigation at the request of San Leandro police. Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call the CHP's Golden Gate Communications Center at (707) 551-4100.
