Walmart Armed Robbers Still at Large

Two men who wearing dark clothing and at least one armed with a handgun, robbed the store on the 1900 block of Davis Street Monday afternoon

Police are in search of two suspects, at least one armed, who robbed the Walmart store on the 1900 block of Davis Street Monday afternoon.

Around 2:53 p.m., San Leandro Police Department’s Communications Center received multiple calls regarding a robbery in progress at the busy Westgate Shopping Center.

The suspects were 2 men wearing dark clothing; at least one was armed with a handgun. They were gone by the time police arrived at the scene.

Witnesses said that the suspects demanded money from the store at gunpoint. The employees cooperated and the suspects fled out the front doors of the store heading northbound.

“We are thankful that nobody was hurt during this robbery and that everyone in the store cooperated," said Lt. Randall Brandt. This is unusual for a large retail store to be targeted during peak business hours when it was filled with Holiday shoppers.”

The Walmart heist is reminiscent of the bold robbery of a Safeway store in September by a gang of armed gunmen. Police have made no arrests in that case.

This is an ongoing investigation and there are Detectives assigned to the case. Please contact Detective Sgt. Henderson with any information regarding this case at 510-577-3237.

Witnesses to the incident should contact the San Leandro Police Department’s Investigations Division at (510) 577-3233. Citizens can also send an anonymous tip to San Leandro Police Department by texting the word SLPD and their tip to 847411. Anonymous web tips can be submitted from the Police Departments website at http://www.sanleandro.org/depts/pd/at.asp
