Crime Blotter: 1.5 Pounds of Cocaine Confiscated

A snapshot of recent police activity in San Leandro.

Pound and a Half of Cocaine. officers assisted the IRS with carrying out a search warrant at a residence on the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue on the morning of Tuesday, July 26. During the search, police found 1.5 pounds of cocaine, over $7,000 in cash, two semi-automatic handguns and items for packaging drugs, the police department said. One of the guns had its serial number removed, which is a crime, police said.

Kenya Brown, a 27-year-old San Leandro resident, was arrested at the residence on suspicion of possession for sale of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, altering and defacing a firearm, and possession of more than an ounce of cocaine, the police department said.

Police said they could provide no more information about the incident, since the search warrant was sealed. The IRS also refused to provide more information.

Brown’s bail was set at $360,000. She was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon at the Hayward Hall of Justice.

Stolen “Mama.” A man parked his car in the Lucky’s parking lot on Fairmont Drive on Monday, July 18 and left his 2-year-old female Shih Tzu named “Mama” inside the car, the man told police.

He left the front and rear windows rolled down about three inches, he told police. He locked the front door, but said the right rear door of his car didn’t lock.

He went into Fairmont Cleaners around 11:40 a.m., and when he came back fifteen minutes later, his dog Mama was gone.

The man told police it would have been quite hard for the dog to escape out the window and said Mama had never run away. He told police he thought someone had opened the door and stolen the dog.

Not-So-Sure Storage. On Thursday, July 21, a woman got a call from an employee of Shurguard Storage on Marina Boulevard warning her that the lock on her storage unit was different than the one on the unit the previous day, according to a police report.

The woman arrived to examine her storage unit and found a lot of items missing, and a broken sculpture lying on the ground, she told police. Among the missing items was a 32-inch flat screen TV that cost nearly $1,000, she told police.

An officer who responded to the scene found that some of the wire ties holding the chain link fence to poles on the storage area’s west side were missing. The officer speculated that a thief could have entered the storage area that way.

Female Purse Snatchers. A woman was putting her groceries into her car, with her boyfriend's help, in front of the Safeway on Washington Avenue on Sunday, July 24, when another woman tried to take her purse from the back seat, according to a police report.

The victim grabbed the purse back from the would-be thief, but then saw another woman standing at the back of the car with a semi-automatic weapon, according to the police report. The suspect pointed the gun at the victim and told her to hand over the wallet.

The victim threw the wallet at the suspect with the gun. The suspects, described by one of the victims as likely being 15 to 20 yearsold, ran off and got into a dark-colored four-door sedan, which drove off.

JIll, why was the IRS involved in the cocaine bust? I would have thought that the DEA or ATF or ACSO or HPD or CHP or other agency but not the IRS. Please explain.

The IRS told me it was illegal for them to tell me anything about the investigation at this point so your guess is as good as mine. The search warrant is currently sealed. Could be money laundering?

Yeah, I would bet it's the same reason Al Capone got sent to prison.

Rob, *I* provide decent, safe, affordable housing for low income folks. It can be done. Yes, IRead More take Section 8 vouchers. Guess what, they work, and they disperse poverty so you do not end up concentrating poor people into a ghetto. All you're doing is creating ghettos. As for the religious women, surely you understand the difference between charity freely given and taxes confiscated from me at the point of a gun.

As previously mentioned, if there were a "shortage" of affordable housing, rather thanRead More creating a brand new ghetto in the middle of downtown SL, those tax dollars could have gone to buying up blocks of foreclosed houses and fixing them up. But you'd rather build new construction at a higher cost to taxpayers. Wonder why...

If there wasn't a demand, people wouldn't be lining up dozens deep for every unit. These will beRead More nice units, well managed. There are folks buying up & rehabbing foreclosed properties. Remember, I sent you a link? As for your distaste for taxes (except perhaps when they fund your splendid education), the Sisters disagree w

It's slightly used but I don't remember where I bought it from. I don't see any brand name on it. IRead More just priced it based on the lowest one available on Amazon. If you're interested, make me an offer. Maybe we can agree on it. Thanks for your inquiry.
