Craigslist Ad Lures Two Men Into Beating, Robbery

Two San Jose men drove to San Leandro to buy a car but got pistol-whipped and robbed instead.

 

Here's an incident that gives new meaning to the saying, "buyer beware."

Two San Jose men drove up to San Leandro on Saturday expecting to buy a car they'd seen on Craigslist, but got pistol-whipped and robbed instead, police said.

According to police the victim and his brother drove up from San Jose to meet the supposed seller at about 8:30 pm on the 1900 block of Whelan Avenue.

Instead of getting a test drive, the brothers were confronted by two men, one armed with a black, semi-automatic handgun and the other with a silver handgun.

The suspect with the black semi-automatic handgun smacked one of the brothers in the back of the head while the suspect with the silver handgun stood lookout. 

The suspects took cash, wallets, and cell phones from the victims and told them drive back to San Jose. The brothers later reported the incident to the San Leandro Police Department.
