Alejandro Ramirez-Juarez of San Leandro was driving south on East 14th Street near Davis Street when his car was struck head-on by another vehicle traveling very fast, according to San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus.

The other driver, Jesus Antonio Gonzalez, 19, apparently crossed into oncoming traffic near the intersection, McManus said. Ramirez-Juarez was pronounced dead at the scene. A 56-year-old passenger traveling with him sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

An update on his condition was not available.

Gonzalez, a Vallejo resident, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter. Police suspect Gonzalez of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, McManus said.
