Cop Sweep On MacArthur Nets 2 Guns, 11 Arrests

Six hour crackdown on Friday night.

 

A six-hour crackdown along MacArthur Boulevard Friday night produced 11 arrests, including two for gun possession, San Leandro Police said Tuesday.

According to a release, police patrolled the MacArthur corridor from 8:00 pm Friday until 2:00 am Saturday, making eight arrests for drugs and one warrant arrest in addition to the gun charges.

Jemille Birden, a 27-year-old Oakland resident, was one of two persons arrested for alleged gun possession.

Police said Birden was a passenger in a car stopped for a traffic violation on the 1000 block of MacArthur Blvd. at 1:18 am Saturday.

A press release say the officer who approached the vehicle smelled marijuana and learned that the driver was on probation with the provision that he and his vehicle could be searched. Police say they found a loaded Llama 9mm semi-automatic handgun under the floor board where Birden was sitting. 

Lilla Pittman, a 24 year-old San Francisco resident, was also arrested for gun possession after she was stopped for a traffic violation on the 500 block of MacArthur Blvd. at 11:00pm.

Police say they smelled marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of her car. They conducted a search and allegedly found a loaded Raven Arms .25 caliber handgun.

Six traffic citations were also issued during the sweep.
