CHP: San Leandro Man Arrested on Suspicion of Drunken Driving Had Prior Arrest for Reckless Driving

Corey McDonah, 23, was arrested by CHP officers in April.

Information submitted by CHP Oakland:

On Friday, July 18, at approximately 3 a.m., CHP Oakland officers responded to a single vehicle collision eastbound I-580 near Park Blvd.

Upon their arrival, officers located a 1999 Chevy Corvette which had been involved in a collision. Investigators were able to determine that the Corvette struck a curb and a light-pole before overturning.

An unconscious male passenger with major injuries had been ejected as a result of the collision and was located on the roadway in front of the wrecked Corvette. The driver, 23-year-old Corey McDonah, also sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.

During the investigation, the officers noted objective symptoms of alcohol consumption and conducted a DUI investigation. Upon conclusion of the investigation, McDonah was determined to be under the influence. Both the driver and passenger were transported to Highland Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

“When DUI is a factor of a collision, we all know it could have been prevented,” said Captain Whitten of the Oakland CHP. “It is painful to see our people so young in their lives, making life changing choices; choices that ultimately result in tragedy. There are no winners when it comes to DUI."

McDonah had been previously arrested by Oakland CHP in April of this year for driving recklessly on his motorcycle after a CHP aircraft spotted him on I-580 at high speeds while doing stunts in Oakland.
