A car crashed into a power pole on the 700 block of Victoria Avenue Saturday night, causing it to lean dangerously over the street, held up by electric and phone lines.
The incident occurred at 10:05 pm according to the San Leandro Police Department.
Neighbors heard the crash and phoned 911, then ran outdoors to see what caused the commotion.
But by the time they reached the street, the car was empty.
A witness described it as a luxury sedan.
Police and fire officials arrived within minutes and took charge of securing the scene and removing the vehicle.
Although the utility pole was leaning badly, the tension from the wires kept it in place and authorities told residents they did not think the pole would fall or the lines would break.
They were correct.
A repair crew replaced the pole Sunday morning and safely restrung power and phone lines.
A license plate presumably belonging to the crashed vehicle was found at the base of the damaged pole.
