The pursuit occurred Thursday morning. Police say the driver abandoned the car in a residential neighborhood and tossed a loaded firearm as he fled on foot.

By Bay City News—

A brief car chase from San Leandro to Oakland on Thursday morning ended with the arrest of a passenger but the driver managed to get away, police said.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Davis and East 14th streets at about 11:10 a.m., San Leandro police said.

The car did not stop, leading to a car chase into Oakland. Police said the driver abandoned the vehicle in the 9600 block of Walnut Street and fled on foot into neighboring yards.

While running away from officers, he discarded a loaded firearm. The firearm was recovered, police said. A search for the suspect was not successful.

The passenger in the car was arrested without incident and was booked into jail on suspicion of a parole violation and possession of illegal drugs, police said.
